My mother once told me that school was my job. Since I was eight at the time, I just accepted this and kept going with my life. But now that I know that people get paid for working, I’ve figured out that school is not my job because I don’t get paid. My history teacher is like “Well, you get paid with knowledge. And later in life, you can use that knowledge to get a job and earn money.” Yes, I understand that, but what about the present day? Christmas is coming up, and I need money to buy gifts. So am I supposed to go to the mall and say, “Hey, I don’t have any money, but can I pay you in knowledge?” Or, even better, I can pay them in, like, ten years. “Yeah, I finally used some knowledge to get a job and earn money, so here’s that twenty dollars I owe you from ten years ago.” Stores will send me to the loony bin with Mariah Carey and her forty suitcases!!
